About the party

Die PARTEI was founded in 2004 by staff of the satirical magazine Titanic and first ran for the Bundestag in 2005. Its programme combines satirical commentary on other parties with exaggerated political symbolism, while positioning itself against right-wing extremism and capitalism and for the Basic Law, shorter working hours, environmental protection and more direct democracy. It has sat in the European Parliament since 2014; its best Berlin result was 2.0% in 2016.
